Every diamond, whether mined or man-made, should come with a grading certificate from a recognised authority. For Indian buyers, the most trusted names include GIA (Gemological Institute of America), IGI (International Gemological Institute), and SGL (Solitaire Gemmological Laboratories).

If you look at the certificate, it’ll mention whether the diamond is natural or lab-grown. It also details the stone’s 4Cs – cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight. Think of it as your diamond’s Aadhaar card, proof of identity, authenticity, and quality.

Also, keep in mind that a natural diamond’s certificate will not carry words like “laboratory-grown,” “created,” or “HPHT/CVD” (the two main lab diamond creation methods). If you see those, it’s definitely lab-made.
